Training Topics Offered

 Professional Boundaries 

Trainees will learn about the types of boundaries and the importance of establishing and following agency and field guidelines for appropriate boundaries.

Cultural Diversity & Inclusion

This training explores stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination. Additionally, tips for inclusive language, actions, and creating and maintaining an inclusive environment of care will be reviewed

1.5 CEU

Trauma-Informed Care

Trainees will gain a deeper understanding of the variety of traumatic stressors and long-term effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES). Resilience factor and resilience building will be reviewed, exposing trainees to skills that will empower their clients with self-soothing and cycle-interrupting interventions for living more comfortably with the day-to-day experience of acute and traumatic stressors. Additionally, trainees will gain an understanding of trauma-sensitive care, traumatic stressors, and trauma-informed system of care to strengthen an informed base in order resist re-traumatization of clients.

Harm Reduction & Housing First

Trainees will gain an understanding of Harm Reduction Theory and the Housing First Model, and how to incorporate this knowledge into street-based and emergency service settings.

Motivational Interviewing 

Motivational Interviewing is a collaborative conversation style that is scientifically proven to strengthen a person's own motivation and commitment to change. In this condensed course, trainees will learn the theoretical principles and techniques of Motivational Interviewing.

 De-escalation & Personal Safety  

The basics of de-escalation will be explored as well as personal safety and how Universal Trauma Precautions influence de-escalation effectiveness

Meet our trainers

Kelly Swan
Kelly Swan is an expert on addictive disorders, cultural competencies, behavioral health, and group facilitation. She is committed to assisting community partners and implementing effective and engaging education with the goal of improving standards of care. She is a board member on Southern Nevada Homelessness Continuum of Care (CoC), an active member of the CARE Coalition; a trainer for the Nevada Coalition for Suicide Prevention, Balancing Life Issues; the National Council for Behavioral Health, and a committed community advocate.
Craig Anderson
Craig Anderson is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Certified Prevention Specialist. He has worked in the human services field for over 15 years. His experience has given him wonderful opportunities in direct clinical service, program administration, research, academics and as a national trainer. As a prevention specialist he values the need to find macro level answers to the behavioral issues we face as a society. As a social worker he recognizes the importance of taking an individualistic look at how those issues affect each of us. Craig was introduced to Motivational Interviewing early on in his career and is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT). He’s had the opportunity to utilize MI in clinical settings as well as in his various supervisory positions.
